10 tricks to avoid a ticket when caught

There’s always a time when you are made to pull over and are on a risk of getting yourself a ticket/challan from the traffic police. So, here are 10 tricks to get out without getting a ticket and having a heavy toll on your pocket!

#1 Respect:

Do you remember when you were in 3rd grade and your teacher taught about respecting others? Well, it’s exactly what you do when the officer comes to question your offense. Do not let sarcasm off the leash, it might be a superpower in other situations but here it can get you more than one ticket too.

#2 Don’t alarm him:

An officer is already on high alert as he is fearful of getting killed or worse. So, make sure not to make any sudden movements as that might send his blood pressure into overdrive, getting him to think you’re reaching for a weapon or hiding something.

#3 Make him feel safe:

Make sure he feels safe when he’s around your car. So, make sure to keep your hands in view so that he is sure you’re not a threat. The ideal place to keep your hands is the steering wheel-high- so that he can view then.

#4 Come into full view of the officer:

One of the tricks to be followed is to roll down your windows fully and not just enough to show your new shades. What this does is make him realize that you’re ready to cooperate.

#5 Always answer truly:

Now, he obviously will ask you some questions about the vehicle or your age etc, etc so answer them precisely and honestly. Don’t try to chat with him like he’s your buddy. You might end up saying the wrong thing (just saying).

#6 Do not admit what wrong you did:

You don’t admit that you were speeding or you just ran the stoplight because you don’t want to fuel the fire and give him anymore reason to give you a ticket. So, you say, “Oh, I see… I must have… I’m sorry but I didn’t realize I was doing it”. This reduces your chances drastically on getting a ticket.

#7 Talk yourself out of getting a ticket… not vice-versa:

You need to talk yourself out of getting a ticket…not into getting one! So, it’s better to leave the snarky sarcasm out of your conversation and do not screech or have an outburst. Be calm and collected and speak only when necessary.

#8 Never get out of the car:

Doing this will only fuel his suspicions and fear. So it’s better to avoid it.

#9 Show the documents when asked for:

When asked for your driving license or car papers, make sure to mention the place from where you are pulling them out. I.e. the glove compartment or your purse. Make him feel safe remember?

#10 Crying:

Now, this one only works if you’re a woman. You can always cry your way out of getting a ticket!
