7 steps to Plan your career
Equipped with good degree, a little knowledge of Industry and great deal of hope and Enthusiasm. Still Confused? It’s important to get the first step right. Here are 7 steps to plan your career successfully:
1. Analyse your needs
How do I do this? You might be thinking. Here are 2 fantastic way
a) Write 5 lines on what exactly you see yourself doing after 5 years. Be Specific
b) Complete the sentence I would die happy if ______
Visualize your imminent death and write what you would be happy to achieve in terms of status, family money ,social responsibility and so on
2. A SWOT Analysis
After identifying your needs, try to understand and analyze your strengths and weakness both in personality and environment .find an answer “where you are?”
3. Long Term and Short Term Goals
Reflect on needs what you have noted and based on your strengths, weakness and possible opportunities, frame your long term and short term goals
4. The Obstructions
Be specific and write down the shortcomings in your personality and in environment which can keep your from achieving goals.
These shortcomings could be in form of qualifications, knowledge, certain skills, monetary status or your behavior
5. Overcoming them
Now write down what actions you will take to sublimate these obstacles. Set deadlines. Acquire new skills, upgrade existing skills.
6. Ask for help
It is difficult to analyze one’s behavioral weakness and to change them. Identify the people who can help to remove the possible barriers and ask them for help.
7. Analyse your role
Set up your operational context and fill in the context: clearly specify all that you will do as per your plan. You have now framework to construct your career. If you are already working in organization, it’s important to go into one or more step, namely role analysis.
Successful people continuously evaluate what they are producing in comparison to the organizations investment.
Your chances of success are far greater than in unplanned career.
